FML’s Give Back to School Women’s Networking Night Does Double Duty

Glastonbury, Conn. – August 20, 2019 – On the evening of Thursday, August 15, almost 50 professional women from area businesses and organizations joined the FML Women’s Group to pitch in packing backpacks and raising funds for the Community Child Guidance Clinic (CCGC) of Manchester. When the evening concluded after three hours of networking and philanthropy, the event attendees had filled 96 backpacks for students in grades K-8 that attend the CCGC School and raised over thousands for the initiative.

The Give Back to School Women’s Networking Night grew from the FML Women’s Group initiative. The women of FML, who make up over 50% of the 65-person, Glastonbury-based accounting and advisory firm, sought to develop a casual, low-pressure way to expand female-focused networking while also giving back to their community. FML connected with the Community Child Guidance Clinic, who supplied a robust list of needs for their incoming students, many of whom often lack the ability to access even the most basic school supplies.

“Because CCGC serves so many students and families around the area, they were a great fit for our networking initiative,” said Mary K. Wisenski, Chair of the FML Women’s Group and Director, Assurance & Advisory Services. “Their needs were very clear and pronounced. We were able to purchase all the supplies they needed, and then some, and create a hands-on activity to supplement our networking goals. Networking alone can be great, but this really took the event to another level of feel-good fun.”

The event garnered over $6500 in donations, in part from a generous donation match from the Fiondella Family Foundation, as well as via the largesse of attendees, invitees, and the FML staff and community. The funds were used not only to purchase and fill 96 backpacks for the students CCGC serves, but to supplement classroom needs of teachers and staff at the CCGC School.

With such resounding success for a first-time event, the FML Women’s Group plans to emulate and expand the event in future years.
