“The most wonderful invention in my mind is the GOLF CLUB, created in the 1400s by the Scots. Clubs have evolved a lot since the early irons, acquiring grooves in 1908, which helped the average golfer with distance shots. Today’s metal-wood clubs are marvels of precision design. But a great golf game still depends on who is wielding the club, much like great accounting depends on who is behind the calculator.”

INTEGRITY.

Not-for-profit companies and high-quality manufacturers have found in Peter Brown a reliable and robust advocate. Peter comes to FML with 40 years of public accounting experience most of which was acquired in the firm he established in Bristol in 1976. The firm served a wide variety of clients, performing certified audits, financial reporting, consulting and tax services, and tax planning and compliance.

As an accountant known for his insights, Peter distinguished himself among some of Connecticut’s most altruistic organizations, including The Shelter for Women, Community Mental Health Affiliates, Substance Abuse Action Council, Bristol Community Organization and Integrated Behavioral Health. At the same time, he served the privately held business sector with distinction. Companies that stand out on his long client list have included Bechert Bros. Manufacturing Company; Quality Coils, Inc.; Precision Speed Manufacturing Company; Fourslide Spring and Stamping Company; and Technical Industries, Inc. All share in common a reliance on the personalized service that has been one of Peter’s fortes from day one of his career.

Peter prides himself on his decades of experience in a profession that has changed considerably since his earlier days as Manager of Corporate Accounting with Insilco Corporation in 1972. He is a confident communicator who genuinely enjoys providing tax planning to small businesses and “presenting financial information in laymen’s terms.”

Recognized in professional circles for his integrity, Peter was named chair of the Connecticut Society of CPAs (CSCPA) Quality Control Review Committee in 1993-94, which he considered a great honor. He has also served on the Board of Governors of the CSCPA.

Educated at the University of Massachusetts, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, Peter says that his knowledge of small business was made possible largely by “a good reputation.” Apart from the challenges of accounting, Peter enjoys the ones he encounters on the links, as well as Union College football games. He is the proud grandfather of four, and lives in Bristol with his wife, Trudy.
